The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State suffered a setback on Saturday after several of its members defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC senatorial candidate for Kano South, Dr Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya, formally received the defectors in Takai Local Government Area of the state.
There has been a series of defections from the ruling party to the NDC in Kano since former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso emerged as the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate.
At the same time, some politicians have been reported to be leaving Kwankwaso’s camp for the APC as campaign activities for the 2027 general elections intensify in the state.
Political observers have predicted a closely contested election in Kano in 2027, with Kwankwaso and his estranged political godson, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, expected to battle for supremacy.
