Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has strongly claimed that Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), is being subjected to political persecution.
Oseni made the remarks on Monday during The Morning Show while reacting to the ongoing controversy surrounding Obi’s alleged violation of airport parking regulations.
The dispute escalated after Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo accused Obi of breaching parking rules and demanded an apology. Oseni dismissed attempts to downplay the situation, declaring:
“You will be a blind man to say that there is no political persecution of Peter Obi. Their reactions just confirmed it.”
To support his position, the outspoken journalist cited previous incidents he described as selective treatment, including a controversial warning by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo in August 2025, who reportedly told Obi not to enter the state without security clearance.
He also contrasted the handling of Obi’s case with that of other high-profile figures.“We were in this country when they were begging KWAM 1, who went to stand in front of the plane. If Peter Obi had done such a thing, the country would have scattered,” Rufai added.
The exchange highlights the deeply polarised political atmosphere in Nigeria as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections.
