You Can’t Reduce University Graduates to Akara, Corn Sellers – Obidient Movement

The Obidient Movement has strongly criticised First Lady Remi Tinubu over her recent comments suggesting that university graduates could be reduced to selling akara and roasting corn.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, the group’s national coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said such remarks undermine the value of education and the aspirations of Nigerian youths.

“You cannot reduce people who have studied at the university to akara and corn sellers,” Tanko stated.

He argued that the narrative is precisely what Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi seeks to change, stressing that education should translate into meaningful opportunities.

Tanko highlighted Obi’s record in Anambra State, noting improvements in education rankings and security under his leadership. He insisted that Obi’s approach demonstrates the kind of transformation Nigerians deserve.

“Peter Obi plans to turn the fortunes of Nigerians such that when you go to school, you deserve to earn according to what you have learned,” Tanko added.

The Obidient Movement maintained that graduates must not be relegated to menial jobs, urging leaders to prioritise policies that create employment and reward academic achievement.
