A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has taken aim at Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi following remarks he made during a recent interview.
Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, appeared on Channels TV on Sunday where he explained that he was unable to conduct local government elections during his tenure due to ongoing litigations.
“The reasons why I couldn’t conduct the Local Government Election were litigation issues I couldn’t control,” he said.
Reacting via Facebook, Ayekooto questioned Obi’s ability to handle national challenges if elected president, linking the comment to what he described as Obi’s history of struggling with internal party crises.
“You couldn’t control a small challenge in only one state, no wonder you always run from challenges from one political party to another, giving excuses. The irony is you aspiring to run 36 states and the FCT despite your inability to control only one state’s challenges,” Ayekooto wrote.
The exchange adds to the growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections, where Obi has positioned himself as a reform-driven candidate while critics continue to question his track record in governance.
