Residents of Zaria and Sabon Gari LGAs have commended the road and bridge projects being executed by the administration of Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna.
The residents spoke during a statewide media tour of ongoing
and completed infrastructure projects organised by the Kaduna state government
and led by Ahmed Maiyaki, commissioner for information and culture.
Ibrahim Abubakar, a farmer from Anguwar Jaba in Sabon Gari
LGA, said the construction of the Anguwar Jaba-Kakiyayi Bridge has ended more
than four decades of hardship for residents.
According to Abubakar, successive administrations failed to
construct the bridge despite repeated appeals, leaving farming communities cut
off during the rainy season.
“For more than 40 years, we suffered because there was no
bridge linking our communities. During the rainy season, farmers could not
access their farmlands or transport produce to the markets,” he said.
“Governor Uba Sani has fulfilled a dream that many thought
would never become a reality. This bridge will boost agricultural production
and improve the livelihoods of our people.”
Shamsudeen Abdullahi, another resident, described the bridge
as a strategic project linking several farming communities in Zaria and Sabon
Gari LGAs.
He said the project has eased the movement of agricultural
produce while improving access to schools and healthcare facilities.
“In the past, parents depended on canoes to take their
children across the river to school, exposing them to serious risks,” Abdullahi
said.
“During medical emergencies, accessing Limi General Hospital
or Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika was extremely difficult,
and we sadly lost lives because of delayed access to healthcare. Today, that
challenge is becoming history.”
Residents of Hanwa Low Cost also said the ongoing road
construction linking the community to GRA Zaria has improved connectivity,
reduced travel time and stimulated economic activities.
The ward head of Unguwan Gangare said the road project has
enhanced mobility within the community while increasing property values by
attracting new residents and investors.
Speaking during the inspection, the commissioner said the
projects demonstrate the state government’s commitment to ensuring
infrastructure development reaches both urban and rural communities.
He said the projects are part of more than 150 road projects
covering about 1,345 kilometres currently being executed across Kaduna state’s
23 local government areas.
“These projects are not just about laying asphalt or
constructing bridges; they are about connecting people to opportunities,
improving access to schools and hospitals, opening up farming communities,
stimulating local economies and improving the quality of life of our citizens,”
Maiyaki said.
“What we are witnessing is one of the most ambitious
infrastructure programmes in the history of Kaduna state.
“The governor is deliberately investing in roads and bridges
because infrastructure remains the foundation for economic growth, food
security, job creation and sustainable development.”
Maiyaki urged residents to protect public infrastructure,
saying community ownership is essential to sustaining government investments.
The media tour is part of the government’s efforts to
promote transparency and provide citizens with firsthand information on
projects being implemented across the state.
