Warn South Africa, There Will be Consequences for Nigerians killed – Ejimakor urges Tinubu

Prominent activist lawyer Aloy Ejimakor has called on President Bola Tinubu to issue a strong warning to the South African government over the safety of Nigerian citizens in the country amid rising xenophobic attacks.

Ejimakor, who also serves as Special Advisor to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), urged the President to make it clear that there will be serious repercussions if any Nigerian is harmed by South African mobs.

In a strongly worded statement titled ‘Dear black South Africans, especially the Zulu’, Ejimakor condemned what he described as "#afrophobia" towards fellow black Africans, calling it "very shameful."

He reminded South Africans of the significant support Nigeria and other African nations provided during the anti-apartheid struggle. “Before you raise your next hand at another black African living in South Africa, remember that South Africa was the only country in the world that the whole of black Africa came together to free from oppression and apartheid,” he stated.

Ejimakor highlighted the refuge and financial assistance given to leaders like Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki in Nigeria, as well as the sacrifices made by frontline states such as Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Tanzania. Addressing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa directly, he said the rest of black Africa is watching closely and expects swift action to stop the violence, noting that “the buck stops at your table.”

To President Tinubu, Ejimakor urged: “I urge you to issue the strongest warning to South African government that there will be hell to pay for any Nigerian lost to a South African mob.”

The statement comes as reports of xenophobic violence against Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa continue to generate concern, with the Nigerian government reportedly making arrangements to evacuate more citizens from the country.
