The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will shut down operations on Friday, July 3, 2026, to observe US Independence Day.
The US Mission in Nigeria announced the closure via a post on its official social media handle on Thursday.
“The US Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of US Independence Day,” the statement read.
US Independence Day, popularly known as the Fourth of July, is celebrated annually on July 4. It commemorates the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the thirteen American colonies formally declared their independence from Great Britain.
This is one of several routine closures observed by the US diplomatic missions in Nigeria for American public holidays. Services are expected to resume on the next working day.
