Daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has revealed that emotional upset, rather than deeper ideological differences, prompted her resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a recent appearance on the Morayo Show, Iyabo stated bluntly: “I resigned from the APC because I was upset that the consensus candidate failed to keep the promises he made to me and my followers.”
The revelation comes shortly after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State formally welcomed the former senator following her exit from the APC.
Iyabo Obasanjo returned to active politics in January 2026 after a 15-year hiatus, joining the APC and declaring her intention to contest the governorship of Ogun State.
Her stay in the party proved short-lived. On May 31, 2026, she resigned after losing the governorship ticket, citing disrespect, betrayal, and unfair treatment by the party leadership. Her latest comments provide a more personal explanation focused on the failure of the APC’s consensus candidate to honour commitments made to her and her supporters.
The development shows the fluid and often personality-driven nature of political alignments in Ogun State ahead of future elections. Iyabo Obasanjo’s move to the PDP marks another chapter in her intermittent political journey.
