President Bola Tinubu has called on governors of the six North-East states to ramp up efforts in combating terrorism and banditry, stressing the need for stronger collaboration to overcome the region’s security challenges.
The President made the remarks on Thursday while receiving a delegation of political leaders and government officials from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states at the Presidential Villa.
“Only when we stick together, think together, and face the challenges the best way possible as a united country do we prevail,” Tinubu said.
He also highlighted positive economic developments, describing the current period as Nigeria’s “golden age” due to growing stability. “If you can stabilise the economy, Nigerians are not asking for too much simple stability and social welfare,” he added.
Tinubu assured citizens of his administration’s resolve, stating, “We are never going to look back. Nigeria will survive.”
He pointed to ongoing infrastructure improvements in the North-East, particularly the Akwanga–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway project, and noted that his government is addressing unpaid pensions inherited from previous administrations.
“I am clearing the mess created before me, but I won’t complain,” he said.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who led the delegation, said the visit was to express gratitude to President Tinubu for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Zulum commended the President for rewarding “loyalty, competence, and commitment.” He also praised the administration’s investments in road infrastructure, support for internally displaced persons, education, agriculture, and job creation.
The governor pledged that the North-East region would strongly back Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 general elections.
