Tinubu Showcases Health Sector Reforms, Highlights Major Gains


President Bola Tinubu has outlined what he described as landmark achievements in Nigeria’s health sector, stressing that ongoing reforms are expanding access to care, strengthening the workforce, and improving outcomes nationwide.


In a post on his X handle, Tinubu said every Nigerian deserves quality healthcare regardless of location or income. 


He noted that since assuming office, his administration has embarked on one of the most ambitious health reforms in decades through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.


According to him, the reforms include revitalising thousands of Primary Healthcare Centres, expanding health insurance coverage, immunising millions of children, upgrading specialist hospitals, and positioning Nigeria as a hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare investment.


The President highlighted key milestones:


Health insurance expansion: Six million more Nigerians added.Primary Healthcare Centres: 4,161 under revitalisation, with 3,158 completed; over 14,000 now functional.


Immunisation campaigns: More than 102 million children vaccinated against Measles-Rubella; 17.1 million girls protected against cervical cancer via HPV vaccine.


Health workforce: 78,054 frontline workers trained; 20,000 professionals recruited into Federal Tertiary Hospitals.


Infrastructure projects: 503 delivered nationwide, including three world-class cancer centres.Backing Tinubu’s claims, the Presidency released a detailed Nigeria Health Sector Impact Report, showing maternal mortality reduced by 17% and newborn mortality by 10% between 2023 and 2025.


 The report also noted over 40,000 free Caesarean Sections and 4,000 Vesico-Vaginal Fistula repairs funded through government support.


Tinubu emphasised that the reforms are designed to save lives today while building a stronger, more resilient health system for future generations. “Our work continues. The best days of Nigerian healthcare are still ahead of us,” he said.
