Three Nigerian children have emerged as global champions after winning gold medals at the International STEM Olympiad, placing the country among the top performers in the prestigious competition.
The winners are Chimdiebube Onwubiko, Don Anele Munachimso, and Onyedikachi Egejurum.
Education technologist Alex Onyia announced the achievement in a post on X, describing it as a landmark moment for Nigeria.
He revealed that Don Anele Munachimso clinched gold in Science, earning recognition as the world’s best in the category. Munachimso had earlier been celebrated as Nigeria’s top performer in IGCSE Chemistry.
Onyedikachi Egejurum also won gold, emerging as the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category, while Chimdiebube Onwubiko secured another gold medal, further boosting Nigeria’s standing in the competition.
“The investment is worth it,” Onyia wrote, calling the feat “the beginning of greatness for the country.”
The International STEM Olympiad, which concluded recently, featured participants from across the globe, highlighting excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics among young learners.
