Nigerian troops successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Moriki, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, though three civilians were injured by stray bullets.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday when terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the military base from multiple directions, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details on X on Saturday night.
Troops from Combat Team 5 (CT 5) stood their ground and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, forcing the terrorists to retreat without breaching the base.
Security sources confirmed that three civilians caught in the crossfire sustained injuries from stray bullets. The victims were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Following the attack, security measures have been significantly strengthened in the area to forestall any further assaults.
“The situation has since been brought under control, while security has been reinforced in the area to prevent further attacks,” the sources said.
No casualties were reported among the military personnel.
