Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) without first suspending officials allegedly linked to the scandal.
In a post on his X handle Tuesday, Ibe described the move as “flagrantly wrong,” arguing that key figures, including Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, should have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
“Not suspending all those involved in the #GbajaGate scandal is akin to them being a judge in their own case. Their continued stay in office while the investigation is going on gives them the opportunity to interfere with the process,” Ibe stated.
Tinubu had earlier ordered the ICPC to conduct a 30-day probe into the PFIPC, which the Presidency insists is a fictitious body with no legal basis or presidential approval.
The directive followed claims by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who styled himself as the council’s Director-General, that he paid N600m to secure the position and accused Gbajabiamila of demanding 48 percent of the agency’s take-off grant.
Although the Presidency dismissed Adeyemi as an impostor, questions remain over how the PFIPC allegedly secured a N1.3bn allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act and opened accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Ibe’s remarks add to growing calls for Gbajabiamila’s suspension, with the Nigeria Democratic Congress and former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, also demanding that implicated officials step aside to ensure transparency in the investigation.
