Zainab Sadiq, a journalist working with African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Sowore announced her release late Friday via his verified X account, attributing the development to the “conscientious intervention and determined pressure” of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
Recall that the DSS had earlier confirmed Zainab’s detention, sparking widespread calls for her freedom.
“Ms. Zainab Sadiq is finally free from the grip of repression! To everyone who raised their voice, made calls, demanded justice, and stood firmly against repression: THANK YOU! When people of conscience unite and stand against injustice, repression can be defeated. Welcome back, Zainab,” Sowore wrote.
Her release has been welcomed as a victory for civic pressure and collective action against repression, with Sowore emphasizing the power of unity in confronting injustice.
