Soldiers Arrest Sudanese Man, Ghanaian Woman in Borno Forest

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested two foreign nationals during a counter-terrorism operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Army identified Musa Fashir, a 32-year-old Sudanese, as a suspected foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator, while Mary Florence, a 36-year-old Ghanaian, was described as an illegal immigrant.

According to Acting Military Information Officer, Capt. Muhammed Goni, the arrests were made by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m. on July 19, 2026.

“Preliminary intelligence indicates that the Sudanese suspect has established links with terrorist elements, further highlighting attempts by foreign actors to support insurgent activities in the region,” Goni stated.

He added that Florence’s presence in the area is under investigation to verify her claims of being an illegal immigrant.

Both suspects are currently in military custody undergoing profiling and interrogation to determine their identities, activities, and possible links to terrorist or transnational criminal networks.

The Army emphasized that the arrests underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in the North-East and reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting terrorist support systems and preventing foreign infiltration.

Citizens were urged to continue providing credible information to security agencies, as collective vigilance remains vital to restoring peace and stability in the region.
