Security Operatives Repel Gunmen Attack on NIPSS Kuru, One Assailant Killed

Security operatives at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, on Wednesday night repelled another attack by suspected gunmen, killing one of the assailants during a gun battle.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when the attackers attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter but were met with stiff resistance.

Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, said the assailants engaged security personnel in a gun duel but were forced to retreat following a swift and coordinated response.

“One of the assailants was neutralised during the encounter, while others escaped with varying degrees of injuries,” the statement noted.

Samuel added that no breach was recorded, and all staff, participants, residents, and facilities at the institute remain safe. He disclosed that security agencies have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while surveillance measures around the institute have been reinforced.

The management reassured staff, participants, and their families of its commitment to safety, urging the public to disregard misinformation capable of causing panic.

This latest incident comes barely two weeks after suspected gunmen attacked the institute and its surrounding community, leaving three people, including a security operative, dead. That attack prompted authorities to strengthen security around Nigeria’s foremost policy and leadership training institution.
