The House of Representatives Committee probing the operations of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has directed Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to present the organisation’s self-styled Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, before lawmakers on Wednesday.
The order was issued during Monday’s resumed investigative hearing at the National Assembly in Abuja. Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, who represented the IG, was instructed to ensure Adeniyi’s appearance by noon to aid the committee’s inquiry.
Lawmakers are investigating how the PFIPC—an entity not legally established—allegedly secured office space at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and obtained a ₦1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi stressed the importance of Adeniyi’s testimony, citing the gravity of the allegations and the reputational risks for key government institutions.
“It is not an option now. We need him here to confirm some documents in a way that will not undermine our investigation,” Gagdi said.
Police testimony confirmed that petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President had accused Adeniyi of fraudulently presenting himself as DG of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the PFIPC. Investigators disclosed that an eight-count charge had already been filed against him at the Federal High Court.
The committee also examined documents allegedly bearing forged signatures from the State House and other agencies. Police witnesses confirmed discrepancies, reinforcing suspicions of widespread forgery. Gagdi revealed that investigators had identified 29 questionable documents, including purported approvals from the Presidency, Finance Ministry, and other institutions—all disowned by the agencies involved.
Despite police caution against prejudicing ongoing investigations, the committee vowed to continue its independent probe, with its final report expected to recommend further action.
