Remi Tinubu, Harvests Vegetables at Villa Garden, Urges Nigerians to Embrace Home Gardening

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has harvested fresh vegetables from her home garden at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while renewing her call on Nigerians to adopt home gardening as a way to strengthen food security.

According to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Tinubu visited the garden on Monday for another round of harvest from the vegetable plot established nearly two years ago under her Every Home A Garden initiative.

The Villa garden continues to yield a variety of vegetables including spinach, waterleaf, and fluted pumpkin. After the harvest, the First Lady shared portions of the produce with members of her staff, stressing the importance of compassion and generosity in everyday life.

The garden was unveiled in July 2024 as part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at encouraging household farming amid rising food prices. The project was launched alongside the Every Home A Garden competition, designed to inspire women and families across Nigeria to cultivate vegetables in their homes.

At the launch, Tinubu explained that the garden was meant to demonstrate how even small household spaces could be used to grow nutritious food, thereby reducing feeding costs and promoting healthier living.
