Rehabilitation of Rescued Oyo Pupils, Teachers Now my Priority – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged that his administration’s immediate focus is on reuniting the pupils and teachers rescued from captivity in Oriire Local Government Area with their families and ensuring their rehabilitation after 56 harrowing days in the hands of abductors.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Makinde expressed gratitude for the victims’ safe return and assured that the state government would provide the necessary support to help them recover from the physical and emotional trauma of their ordeal.

“Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience,” he said.

The governor commended the courage and professionalism of the security agencies involved in the rescue operation, while paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

His remarks followed confirmation from the Presidency that the victims were freed during a coordinated security operation.

Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga disclosed that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested, while others were neutralised, stressing that no concessions were made to the abductors despite their demands.

In a video released by the Presidency, one of the rescued victims expressed heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies, saying, “We are grateful, Mr President, sir. We understand your commitment to our safety, and we appreciate all you did for us.”

President Tinubu also welcomed the successful operation, praising the security forces for their bravery and commitment to safeguarding Nigerians.
