A former Department of State Services (DSS) operative, Seyi Adetayo, has revealed details of the intelligence-led operation that secured the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State after 56 days in captivity without ransom payments or prisoner exchanges.
Speaking on TVC News, Adetayo said security forces relied heavily on intelligence gathering to pressure the kidnappers.
He disclosed that operatives identified and arrested the abductors’ relatives including mothers, wives, and children and sent video recordings of them to the kidnappers, a tactic that weakened their resolve.
“They identified the kidnappers’ mothers, wives, children, and close associates. They arrested them, recorded videos, and sent them to the abductors,” Adetayo explained.
According to him, the operation dismantled the kidnappers’ support network, cut off supply lines, and blocked escape routes.
Security agents combined coercive measures with negotiations, ultimately leading to the victims’ safe release.
The Presidency confirmed the rescue, with Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga stating that eight suspects were arrested and several neutralised.
He stressed that no concessions were made, despite demands for the release of a detained kingpin currently facing prosecution.Following their freedom, the pupils and teachers expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies.
In a video released by the Presidency, one victim said: “We are grateful, Mr President, sir. We understand your commitment to our safety, and we appreciate all you did for us.”
President Tinubu welcomed the successful operation and commended the bravery and professionalism of the security forces.
