Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticized First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over her recent appeal to Nigerian musicians to reduce spending on luxury cars and channel more of their wealth into charitable causes.
In a post shared on X, Oseni argued that government officials should lead by example before asking others to make sacrifices.
“The president’s wife says musicians should buy less Ferraris and co and spend more on charity. Can government officials also reduce their convoy?” he wrote.
His remarks followed the First Lady’s speech at the launch of the National Community Food Bank in Lokoja, Kogi State, where she urged artistes such as Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake to establish foundations and support vulnerable Nigerians.
According to her, the government cannot shoulder the nation’s burdens alone.Oseni, however, questioned the credibility of such appeals, pointing to what he described as the First Lady’s large convoy.
He insisted that public officials must demonstrate restraint if they expect citizens to follow suit.
The exchange has sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on whether leaders should first cut down on government excesses before calling on celebrities to contribute more to social welfare.
