The Presidency has officially exonerated Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila from allegations linking him to a forged appointment letter tied to a fictitious federal agency.
In a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency dismissed claims that Gbajabiamila issued any appointment to Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who allegedly paraded himself as head of a non-existent “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.”
Authorities revealed that Adeyemi created fake presidential structures, held unauthorised meetings with foreign diplomats, and attempted to secure visa facilitation through forged documents. Investigations uncovered counterfeit seals, correspondence, and multiple bank accounts tied to fabricated entities.
The Presidency stressed that Gbajabiamila’s office has no authority to issue appointments, a responsibility reserved for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. It further emphasised that no record exists linking him to the fraudulent scheme.
Security agencies, including the DSS and Nigeria Police, have arrested Adeyemi and two accomplices in Abuja. The suspects now face charges in court, with officials urging the public to avoid speculation until judicial proceedings conclude.
The Presidency reiterated that attempts to associate Gbajabiamila with the matter are misleading and unsupported by evidence.
