The ongoing controversy over the alleged Presidential Fiscal and Infrastructure Projects Council (PFIPC) took a dramatic turn on Monday as police operatives raided the Ogbomoso home of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi’s family, arresting his father and a visitor.
According to eyewitnesses and human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), officers arrived in four vehicles at the residence located at Plot 3, Adeniyi Dynasty, behind Technical College, Road Safety Area, Ogbomoso. They took away Adeniyi’s father and a family friend who was visiting that morning, leaving the elderly mother in a state of shock.
Falana, who confirmed the arrest in a conversation with journalists, strongly criticised the action. “Police have now stormed the house of the parents of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi... The father has been arrested. There is no legal basis for substituted arrests. The young man has promised to show up in court, so why arrest his father?” he questioned.
Neighbours described the scene as tense, with officers allegedly harassing the family before making the arrests. One resident noted that the mother was left behind in distress but has since been moved to safety by concerned locals. A man in blue clothing was reportedly seen patrolling the area afterward.
Adeniyi, who is facing charges of forgery, impersonation, and operating a fictitious government agency, is at the centre of the PFIPC scandal. The Presidency has maintained that the council was never legally established, despite claims it operated under its auspices and received significant budgetary allocation.
The case has sparked widespread debate, with Falana and others calling for due process and warning against actions that could appear as intimidation during ongoing court proceedings. Police have not yet issued an official statement on the reported arrests as of the latest updates.
This latest development adds another layer to the high-profile scandal that continues to draw national attention.
