Demola Olarenwaju, Senior Political Assistant to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to invite President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, for questioning over his alleged links to the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Olarenwaju urged the agencies to handle Gbajabiamila in the same manner as they treated former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He also demanded that Gbajabiamila step aside from his position while investigations proceed.
In a post on X, Olarenwaju argued that Gbajabiamila cannot remain in office as Chief of Staff during an independent probe, especially since the investigating agencies may require presidential approval to operate effectively. He called for the suspension of Gbajabiamila and any accomplices until the matter is resolved.
“Gbaja and his accomplices should be suspended until the investigation is completed,” Olarenwaju stated. He suggested that President Tinubu’s reluctance to remove or suspend Gbajabiamila indicates deeper involvement in the alleged corrupt operation, beyond merely signing documents without scrutiny.
The controversy surrounds Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi (also referred to as Adeyemi Adeyemo), who positioned himself as Director-General of the PFIPC. On June 11, 2026, Gbajabiamila publicly stated that he did not know Adeyemi and that the council does not exist.
He claimed he alerted security agencies in October 2025 after discovering fake appointment letters. Adeyemi was subsequently arraigned in the Federal High Court on charges including forgery, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretenses.
Adeyemi has denied the allegations and vowed to prove his innocence in court. President Tinubu has ordered an independent investigation into the claims.
Olarenwaju expressed no surprise that agencies like the ICPC, EFCC, and DSS did not act immediately on the matter, which has been dubbed #GbajaGate, before receiving a directive from the President. He reiterated his call: “They should invite Gbajabiamila and treat him exactly the same way they have treated El-Rufai so far.”
The PFIPC scandal has sparked broader political reactions, including probes by the House of Representatives and ongoing public debate about accountability in government.
