The controversial Director-General of the Presidential Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, is currently in detention at the headquarters of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Guzape, Abuja, where he is undergoing interrogation.
Adeyemi was arrested by operatives of the police Intelligence Response Team led by CSP Moses Lohor.
He was apprehended in Osun State, moved to Ibadan, and subsequently flown to Abuja on a private jet following a court warrant issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Authorities have described PFIPC as a “fake” Federal Government agency. President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the controversy surrounding the organisation and submit a report within 30 days.
A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Adeyemi is being questioned over allegations of unlawfully operating what was presented as a federal agency and other related activities.
When contacted, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, said he would look into the matter but had yet to provide an update as of the time of the report.
Gbajabiamila Files N15bn Defamation SuitIn a related development, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has filed a N15 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeyemi at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
Gbajabiamila is seeking N10 billion in general damages, N5 billion in aggravated damages, and N200 million as the cost of the suit.
He is also demanding a full retraction and apology published in five national newspapers, as well as pinned on all social media platforms and online channels where the alleged defamatory statements appeared for 30 days.
The suit stems from allegations that Adeyemi demanded a 48 per cent kickback from a N27.3 billion take-off grant approved for a federal agency.
