Gbemso, the new girlfriend of hype man Fisayo ‘MC Fish’
Michael, has pushed back against a cease-and-desist letter from his estranged
wife Anita Joseph over alleged defamatory social media posts.
In the recent letter, issued through E. J. Akeredolu of
Izuagwu Akeredolu & Co., Anita accused Gbemi of trolling her online and
publishing malicious falsehoods capable of damaging her reputation.
The letter demanded an immediate halt to the statements and
warned of potential legal action if Gbemso failed to comply.
“Our client is lenient enough to forewarn you to desist from
further nefarious activities done by yourself and your woman towards her brand
and public image,” it reads in part.
“Take further note that failure to refrain from making
defamatory remarks and libels against our client shall invoke the necessity to
approach a court of competent jurisdiction for redress, compensation and
damages.”
Responding via her Instagram stories on Monday, Gbemso
argued that only a court, not the Nigerian Bar Association or a lawyer, has the
authority to issue a restraining order or injunction.
“We know the law. This isn’t African Magic,” she wrote.
“Only a court can issue a restraining order or injunction. A
valid court order is typically issued by a judge and forms part of a court
proceeding. It will ordinarily bear the court’s identifying details and be
authenticated according to the court’s procedures.
“A court can, in some circumstances, grant an interim or ex
parte restraining order without the other party being present at the initial
hearing if the applicant shows that the matter is urgent. However, that is
still a court order, not an NBA order, and there must be a legal application
supported by evidence.”
MC Fish and Gbemso went public with their relationship in
February 2026, months after the hype man’s marriage to actress Anita officially
ended.
Since the split, he has defended himself against public
criticism, particularly claims by some social media users that he was a “gold
digger”.
Reflecting on his failed marriage, he encouraged people not
to fear marriage itself, comparing it to a learning journey.
“Marriage is not something that should scare anybody. I feel
like marriage is a school, just like moving from primary school to university,”
he had said.
He also admitted that both he and Anita had been unfaithful
during the marriage.
