The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has engaged in high-level talks with a United States delegation to bolster bilateral security cooperation amid Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, involved a delegation led by the newly confirmed US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia.
This marks Garcia’s first official visit to Nigeria since assuming the position earlier in 2026.
According to Ribadu, discussions centred on reviewing the progress of the Nigeria–US Joint Working Group and strengthening long-standing partnerships to tackle pressing security threats, including counterterrorism and other transnational crimes.
The engagement comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with escalating security issues, ranging from banditry and insurgency to kidnapping and communal conflicts across several regions.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deeper dialogue, intelligence sharing, and collaborative efforts aimed at restoring stability.
Officials described the meeting as productive, with emphasis placed on mutual priorities and enhanced coordination between the two nations.
