NCAA Suspends Pilot After Delta Road Landing Incident

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the pilot-in-command of a private jet that controversially landed on a road in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.

The aircraft, a private jet with registration number N989BC operated by VMO Aero Ltd, made the unusual landing in June with four crew members on board.

It later departed the scene and returned to Lagos without securing the necessary regulatory clearance.

Speaking at the Airport Business Summit in Lagos, NCAA Director General Captain Chris Najomo confirmed that both the pilot and the First Officer have been barred from operating in Nigerian airspace pending the outcome of investigations.

Najomo explained that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) had handed over the case to the NCAA, which has since grounded the aircraft and suspended its Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF).

“The pilots are suspended from flying in this airspace until we conclude our investigation. As a pilot for 45 years, I can’t see a road and land on the road. Other motives must be considered. The DSS is also investigating,” Najomo stated.

The NCAA emphasized that the suspension will remain in place until all inquiries are finalized.
