‘Malami’s Prosecution Politically Motivated’ — Kebbi ADC

The Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed that the ongoing prosecution of its governorship candidate, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, is politically driven and intended to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Engr. Sufiyanu Bala, and Chairman of the ADC Elders Forum, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa, the party argued that while it supports lawful investigations, the circumstances surrounding Malami’s case suggest political persecution rather than genuine anti-corruption efforts.

The ADC alleged that Malami’s arrest and detention were over a bailable offence, adding that his properties were searched in his absence and the value of his family’s assets exaggerated to tarnish his reputation.

It further maintained that the allegations ignored his personal background and achievements before his appointment as Attorney-General.

Expressing confidence in the judiciary, the party said it believed appellate courts would ensure justice. It also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using anti-graft agencies and parts of the judicial system to intimidate opposition figures ahead of the polls.

Despite what it described as harassment, blackmail, and media attacks, the ADC insisted its members remain united behind Malami, stressing that no amount of political pressure would weaken its resolve ahead of the governorship election.
