Former Kano State Governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed deep condolences to former Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela, following the tragic death of his two children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road accident.
In a statement shared on his verified X account on Monday, Kwankwaso described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy that has plunged the bereaved family, the Katagum Emirate, and the entire Bauchi State into profound grief and shock.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, on the tragic loss of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road crash,” Kwankwaso wrote. He added that the loss had cast “a heavy shadow of sorrow” over the state and prayed for strength for the family, while also sympathising with the Bauchi State Government and its people.
The siblings died on Saturday while returning from Azare to Bauchi along the Bauchi–Azare Road. Other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries and were hospitalised.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed had earlier condoled with Senator Tela, describing the incident as heartbreaking and praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased while wishing quick recovery to the injured.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also mourned the victims, calling the crash “painful” and praying for Allah’s mercy on the departed and fortitude for the family.
The incident has drawn widespread sympathy across Nigeria, with tributes pouring in for the grieving family.
