Keyamo Dismisses Opposition, Says 2027 Election ‘a Coronation’ for Tinubu

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo has voiced strong confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 presidential election, boldly describing the anticipated contest as “a coronation, not an election.”

Speaking on Thursday during Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain defended the Tinubu administration’s record and downplayed the prospects of opposition candidates.

When asked if he could urge Nigerians to vote for the APC again, Keyamo pointed to the party’s recent successes in off-cycle elections. “We have won in Ekiti now. We told them to vote, they voted. FCT they voted, we won,” he said.

The minister showed little concern about potential challenges from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

“I’m looking around, between you and me, where will Obi’s votes come from? I can’t see it,” he remarked.

When pressed on whether Atiku represented a threat, Keyamo laughed and quipped, “Which Atiku? Nightmare who?”

In his closing remarks, Keyamo declared: “I want to make a profound statement as a closing statement. Not out of arrogance, not out of overconfidence, but out of pure demographic calculations: the 2027 election is a coronation, not an election. I repeat don’t take me out of context out of pure demographic calculations, it’s a coronation.”

President Tinubu is widely expected to seek re-election on the APC platform with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Key opposition figures, including Atiku and Obi (potentially teaming up with former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso), are positioning themselves for what could become a fiercely contested multi-party race.

Keyamo’s comments come amid ongoing political realignments and coalition talks within the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
