Two suspected family members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have voluntarily surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security expert Zagazola Makama disclosed this in a statement posted on X on Wednesday.
According to him, a 29-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Fatimata Modu, accompanied by her two-year-old son, Muhammed Modu, surrendered to troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade.
Both mother and child, who hail from Yaganari Village in Bama LGA, turned themselves in at the troops’ location.
They were immediately taken into custody for profiling and documentation in line with standard operational procedures.Preliminary screening has been completed, while further assessments will be conducted by relevant agencies.
Zagazola noted that the surrender adds to the increasing number of insurgents and their family members laying down arms and embracing peaceful alternatives amid sustained military pressure in the North-East.
He added that while the general security situation in the theatre remains relatively calm, it is still unpredictable, with troops maintaining high vigilance and operational readiness.
