President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized that sustained dialogue among different faith groups represents the most effective approach to resolving Nigeria’s security challenges and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The President made the remarks on Saturday in Abuja while receiving Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations of the Holy See, at the Presidential residence.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with religious leaders to foster peace, harmony, and tolerance nationwide.
“Interfaith dialogue is the only path to addressing the country’s security challenges,” the President declared.
He called on Christian and Muslim leaders to persist in preaching peace, noting that Nigeria can never have too much peace and tolerance.
“My administration will continue to work on religious harmony among all faiths. Our bishops and religious leaders have been doing a great deal. Please tell them to continue the good work they are doing. Let them continue to preach peace and tolerance. We cannot have an excess of that,” he said.
On broader security efforts, President Tinubu highlighted significant progress by the military against criminal elements.
He noted that the government is committing additional resources to enhance surveillance and security operations, particularly in areas that were previously ungoverned.
The President also disclosed that his administration is investing in youth development programmes to reduce their susceptibility to recruitment by terrorist and criminal groups.
The meeting forms part of ongoing engagements between the Nigerian government and the Holy See, marking 50 years of diplomatic relations.
