The Minister made the declaration on Tuesday shortly after briefing President Bola Tinubu on the current security situation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
“I was shocked when I heard and saw that. I don’t know where that came from,” General Musa said. “But expect that there’ll be people that will not be happy when things are going on well.”
He continued: “Security situation has improved, things are getting better. And so for them, it’s a sad point, and they will always want to make it look as if it’s not so. I’m not going anywhere. I have never discussed that with anybody.”
The retired General vowed to pursue legal action: “Whoever he is, we will take a legal action against him when we get him to come and who gave him such information.”
He assured Nigerians of his continued commitment, noting that he had just updated the President, who expressed satisfaction with the ongoing efforts.
General Musa thanked citizens for their massive support and emphasised that defeating terrorists and bandits requires a “whole of society” approach, which is already yielding positive results.
The rumours had earlier been debunked by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde. General Musa urged the public to disregard unverified reports and focus on official channels for accurate information.
This latest denial comes amid continued improvements in Nigeria’s security landscape, according to the Defence Minister.
Lawmakers also called for the establishment of a comprehensive digital asset registry to improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and enhance inter-agency coordination.
The motion received unanimous support and was adopted by voice vote.
