Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has formally announced his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
The governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Tofa, confirmed the decision in a statement on Monday, noting that the announcement was made during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Governor Yusuf explained that his choice was based on Garo’s loyalty, commitment, and contributions to the state’s development since assuming office. He described the deputy governor as a dependable partner who has consistently demonstrated competence and responsibility.
“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” Yusuf said.
He added that Garo’s support had strengthened the administration’s drive to deliver on its promises, emphasizing that their partnership would continue to advance Kano’s progress.
“His contributions have been remarkable, and his commitment to the progress of Kano State has remained unquestionable. Together, we will continue to work towards achieving the goals we set for our people,” the governor stated.
Yusuf also urged party leaders, political appointees, and supporters to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that collective effort was needed to consolidate the administration’s achievements.
The announcement cements the Yusuf-Garo ticket as the ruling party’s team for the next governorship contest in Kano State.
