The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has emphasized that Nigeria’s pressing social and economic challenges cannot be resolved by government efforts alone.
He called for stronger collaboration with faith-based organisations, the private sector, and civil society to drive sustainable national development.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM) Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative in Abuja, Abbas represented by Festus Adefiranye, Chairman of the House Committee on Christian Pilgrims praised the Catholic organisation for establishing a fund to support humanitarian services.
He described the initiative as “a model of responsible stewardship” and a reaffirmation of values such as compassion, sacrifice, and solidarity.
Abbas noted that religious organisations play a unique role in nation-building, as they command public trust, shape moral values, and reach communities often beyond the government’s immediate reach.
He stressed that authentic devotion is measured not only by worship but by “love and action.”
He urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance and unity, insisting that diversity should inspire cooperation rather than division. “Our collective future depends not on the supremacy of one faith over another, but on our shared commitment to justice, peace, human dignity, and national unity,” he said.
Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe of Cross River North also pledged full support for the initiative, aligning it with his philosophy of reaching out to the less privileged.
He promised to contribute to the fund, highlighting its importance in supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
