In a significant political development in Gombe State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost two key officials in Pantami Ward of Gombe Local Government Area as they defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Bala Ngalda, Chairman of the APC in Pantami Ward, and Babangida Gololo, the ward’s Legal Adviser, resigned their positions and left the party. They conveyed their decisions in separate letters dated July 27, 2026 (noted as 2027 in some references, likely a typographical error), addressed to the ward secretary.
In his resignation letter, Ngalda announced his immediate withdrawal from the APC after wide consultations with his family. He thanked the party’s leadership at the ward, local government, state, and national levels, as well as the Gombe State Government, for their support during his tenure. He expressed continued goodwill towards the APC while urging the party to respect his decision.
Similarly, Gololo resigned as Legal Adviser and from APC membership, citing consultations with his family. He also appreciated the party and state government for the opportunity to serve.
Neither letter provided specific reasons for their defection. Both men have since joined the PDP.The defections come amid ongoing political realignments across Nigeria as parties gear up for future elections. Pantami Ward is considered a strategic political base in Gombe LGA, and the exit of these officials is expected to impact the APC’s grassroots strength in the area.
This latest move reflects a broader trend of cross-party movements as politicians reposition themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
