Legal practitioner Frank Tietie has described the bribery allegation against Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, as a “huge intelligence failure” and urged the National Assembly to query the President.
Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, Tietie reacted to claims by Adeniyi Adeyemi, Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), who alleged that Gbajabiamila received ₦400 million through a proxy and demanded an additional ₦200 million to secure his appointment.
The Presidency has dismissed the allegation, insisting that Gbajabiamila neither has the authority to issue letters nor make appointments.
Tietie, however, warned that the matter reflects deeper institutional decay:“We are witnessing the institutional destruction of our country. This is a huge intelligence failure on a national scale.
"If there is an independent report and the President tolerated this, it is an impeachable offence. If the National Assembly wasn’t playing along with the President, it should have queried him. This is an embarrassment,” he said.
The controversy continues to stir debate over transparency and accountability within the Presidency.
