The Federal Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attacked the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State.
Officials described the claims as false and misleading.In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, confirmed that students, staff, and facilities at FGGC Monguno remain safe.
The ministry said its verification, including direct communication with school authorities, showed that academic and boarding activities are continuing without disruption under existing security arrangements.
The clarification followed viral reports claiming suspected ISWAP fighters launched a pre-dawn attack on the college, allegedly killing students and attempting abductions.
Some accounts also suggested that troops of Operation HADIN KAI and Nigeria Police Mobile Force foiled an attempted abduction at the school.
However, Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa explained that none of FGGC Monguno’s students were involved in the incident.
He clarified that those affected were remedial students outside the college, and assured that the Borno State Government is taking steps to safeguard their welfare.
The ministry urged the public and social media users to verify information through credible sources before sharing, warning that unverified reports could cause panic, erode public confidence, and undermine efforts to maintain safe learning environments.
Parents and guardians were advised to remain calm, as there is no security threat at FGGC Monguno.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies, state authorities, and school managements to ensure the safety of students and staff across federal colleges nationwide.
