FCT Police Release Identities of 4 Officers Who Extorted N52,000 from ICPC Chairman

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has publicly identified four officers detained for allegedly extorting N52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).

The officers reportedly abandoned their official duty posts and conducted unauthorised traffic enforcement at the Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II, Abuja, where they stopped a motorist and demanded money on the allegation of traffic violation.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed the development while addressing journalists on Monday.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, named the suspended officers as:

ASP Clement Ehigala

ASP Sunday Okpe

Inspector Samuel Onoja

Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel

According to the police, the officers extorted the sum of N52,000 from the ICPC chairman without knowing his identity. The victim later filed a complaint, prompting swift action from the command.

CP Sanusi ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers and directed that they face an orderly room trial for abandoning their lawful duties, carrying out unauthorised traffic enforcement, and engaging in extortion.

The FCT Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against the officers in line with police regulations.

The command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and zero tolerance for any form of misconduct by its personnel.

The incident has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about police extortion and unprofessional conduct on Abuja roads.
