The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Ahmed Sanusi, has directed the orderly room trial of four officers accused of abandoning their duty posts and extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).
The officers identified are ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja, and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on July 11, 2026, when the officers allegedly left their statutory duty posts and mounted an unauthorised traffic checkpoint at Banex Plaza Junction, Wuse II.
“During the course of the illegal traffic duty, the officers stopped a motorist on the allegation of violating traffic regulations and extorted the sum of ₦52,000 from him. The victim was subsequently identified as the Chairman of the ICPC,” the statement read.
Following the complaint, Sanusi ordered their immediate arrest and disciplinary proceedings in line with police regulations. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct.
Last week, the commissioner had described the officers as “thieves” who had no business wearing the police uniform, vowing that any officer found guilty would face severe sanctions, including dismissal.
The trial underscores the command’s resolve to clamp down on corruption within its ranks and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
