Omoyele Sowore, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has asserted that the Department of State Services (DSS) exists to serve the Nigerian public and not as a private security outfit for individuals or organisations.
Sowore made the remark on Wednesday while speaking with journalists after court proceedings in Abuja.
The activist was reacting to developments in his ongoing trial for alleged defamatory statements against President Bola Tinubu.
On the same day, Justice Mohammed Garuba Umar of the Federal High Court rejected Sowore’s bid to tender uncertified documents as evidence.
“One thing was also established today in court. DSS is employed by Nigerian people. It is not the private security guard organization of anybody,” Sowore said.
He added that the DSS is “not the main guard of the president,” urging security operatives to remember they serve the public interest.
Sowore vowed to continue reminding those in power that the present struggles of Nigerians outweigh any future ambitions they may have.
“We will remind them that our today is more important than the tomorrow they want to hijack. We will free ourselves today, and we will free ourselves for tomorrow and for the future,” he declared.
