Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Gagdi argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is far ahead of the opposition in political mobilisation and activities nationwide.
“I have not seen any effort being put in place by Atiku or Obi to unseat the president come 2027. APC’s political activities are ten times those of any opposition party,” he said.
The Plateau lawmaker stressed that APC has maintained consistent engagement across Nigeria, while opposition figures appear inactive.
He added that political parties naturally prepare for elections, rejecting claims that only opposition politicians are strategising for 2027.
Gagdi also accused some opposition leaders of exploiting Nigeria’s security challenges for political gain rather than offering practical solutions.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that Atiku and Obi’s credentials have been uploaded to its portal, setting the stage for a three-way contest between Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
