The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have completed the upload of their presidential, vice-presidential, and National Assembly candidates onto the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal, following a three-day extension granted by the electoral body.
INEC shifted the original deadline of July 11, 2026, to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, after receiving an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council on behalf of parties that needed more time.
The commission announced the extension through a statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
INEC described the decision as a move to promote inclusivity in the electoral process while remaining within the bounds of the law, and it encouraged all political parties to finalise their submissions before the new cutoff.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, confirmed the ruling party’s full compliance, announcing the successful upload of all 471 candidates including the presidential and vice-presidential nominees, 109 senatorial candidates, and 360 House of Representatives candidates.
He described it as a milestone and urged members to focus on mobilisation for victory in 2027.
The PDP also announced completion of the process. National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed hailed it as “another milestone,” confirming that the party had uploaded its presidential candidate, running mate, and all National Assembly candidates.
The APC used the occasion to criticise opposition parties that could not meet the initial deadline.
In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party argued that the extension exposed the opposition’s organisational weaknesses and questioned their readiness to govern, noting the irony of parties seeking help from the same INEC they often accuse of bias.
The development marks a key step in the preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
