The spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has faulted the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, for failing to attend the Peace Accord meeting ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement released on Friday, Olajengbesi described Oyebamiji’s absence from the event, convened by the National Peace Committee, as “a demonstration of disregard for the people of Osun State and the democratic process.”
He noted that the meeting date had been communicated months earlier, yet Oyebamiji chose to attend a campaign rally in Iwo instead.
While a member of his campaign council, Kola Olabisi, represented him and his running mate, Kayode Adereti, arrived after the signing had concluded, Olajengbesi insisted that the APC candidate should have been present in person.
“The question remains whether attendance at such a crucial event is a responsibility that should be delegated. That is a question the people of Osun deserve to answer for themselves,” Olajengbesi said.
He argued that Oyebamiji missed an opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to peaceful elections before dignitaries such as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, and members of the National Peace Committee.
Olajengbesi further claimed that the absence reinforced doubts about the APC’s dedication to peaceful democratic engagement, stressing that Osun people remain committed to their Omoluabi values and will reject intimidation at the polls.
“The people of Osun State are peaceful, accommodating, and deeply rooted in the Omoluabi ethos.
They rejected politics of intimidation and impunity in 2022, and we remain confident they will once again affirm their commitment to peace, democracy, and good governance on August 15 by re-electing Governor Ademola Adeleke,” he added.
