Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians across all walks of life to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, describing it as the foundational step toward building a new Nigeria.
In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Obi emphasised that the power to transform the country begins not on election day, but with voter registration. He described registering to vote as both a civic duty and a strategic investment in the future Nigerians desire.
Obi shared a personal encounter from the previous day, when he stopped at Waru Wazobia in Abuja and interacted with residents. He used the opportunity to encourage youths and women in particular to take advantage of the ongoing registration process.
“I urge every eligible Nigerian who has not yet registered to do so without delay. Those who already have their voter cards should encourage their family members, friends, neighbours, and colleagues to register as well,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that a new Nigeria would not emerge through wishful thinking alone. “It will be built by citizens who participate, who believe, and who act. Let us continue to choose hope over despair, participation over apathy, and nation-building over division,” Obi wrote.
His message comes amid the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) continuous voter registration efforts as political activities gather momentum toward the 2027 general elections.
