Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Senate President David Mark, alleging that he resorted to travelling by helicopter from Abuja to his hometown in Otukpo, Benue State, due to the poor state of roads during his tenure.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 Ring Road III Interchange linking Jahi District to Gwarimpa in Abuja, Wike said Mark’s eight years as Senate President under former President Goodluck Jonathan saw no meaningful improvement on the Abuja–Makurdi–Otukpo road corridor.
Wike argued that while ordinary citizens struggled with deplorable roads, Mark chose helicopters, highlighting the inequality of access.
He contrasted this with the current administration of President Bola Tinubu, which he said has delivered road projects within three years, making travel by road to Makurdi and Otukpo possible again.
“Mark was flying with helicopters. How many poor people have helicopters? Today, with this administration, we can now drive freely to Makurdi,” Wike stated.
He further urged political leaders to acknowledge achievements, even from rivals, stressing that Tinubu’s government has made significant progress in road infrastructure.
The interchange project was part of activities marking Tinubu’s third year in office, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio representing the President at the event.
