Yoruba Group in Disowns Unauthorised Tinubu Mobilisation Notice

The Yoruba Community in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory has distanced itself from a circulating mobilisation notice purportedly issued in support of President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing it as unauthorised and misleading.

In a public notice signed on Saturday by its President-General, Afiz Adigun, the organisation warned the public against individuals falsely claiming to act on its behalf. It stressed that any political directive issued outside its recognised structures should be disregarded.

Adigun clarified that the community had already taken an official position on the 2027 presidential election following a congress attended by elders and representatives from across the northern states and the FCT.

The congress unanimously endorsed President Tinubu as its preferred candidate for a second term.

This decision led to the establishment of the Yoruba Northern Network for Tinubu (YONNET), a dedicated platform to coordinate support and mobilisation efforts for the President.

Hon. James Olorunfemi, Deputy President of the Yoruba Community in the 19 Northern States, was named National Coordinator of YONNET, with state presidents serving as coordinators in their respective states.

The group expressed concern over attempts by unauthorised individuals to issue directives and mobilise Yoruba youths in the community’s name, particularly through notices shared on social media.

It specifically dissociated itself from reports and planned gatherings in Kaduna and other activities not sanctioned by YONNET or the community’s leadership.

“We dissociate ourselves from any memo or directive that did not originate from YONNET or this office,” the statement read, urging members to ignore such communications.

The organisation called on APC stakeholders and the general public to always verify political information through official channels to prevent misinformation and impersonation.

It advised those interested in supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid in Northern Nigeria to collaborate directly with YONNET or the community’s National Secretariat.

While reaffirming its strong support for President Tinubu and the APC, the Yoruba Community in the North emphasised the need for discipline, proper coordination, and adherence to established structures in all political activities.
