Wike Praises Indigenous Contractor, Says Nigerian Firms Can Match Foreign Standards

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has commended the performance of indigenous contractors, declaring that Nigerian firms are now capable of delivering projects to the same quality as foreign companies.

Wike made the remarks on Monday during the commissioning of the Karu road project in Abuja by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The minister revealed he was initially hesitant to award the contract to Abdul-Val Constructions Limited due to past experiences with local contractors who failed to deliver after receiving mobilisation funds.

However, the company proved its competence by successfully completing the War College–Ushafa Road project last year, which served as a test of its capacity.

“Whether money was available or not, they never abandoned the site. They kept working and assured me the project would be completed because they believed in the government,” Wike said, praising the contractor’s dedication.

He noted that the firm not only completed the Karu road but also delivered the drainage infrastructure in time for the President’s third anniversary commissioning programme.

Wike emphasized that the project’s success has strengthened his confidence in indigenous firms, showing that Nigerian contractors can deliver quality infrastructure when given the opportunity.

He also announced that President Tinubu had approved the construction of all roads within Karu Town, fulfilling promises made to residents.

Highlighting the broader impact, Wike said the reconstruction of roads in Karu and the Nyanya–Mararaba corridor would ease traffic and improve living conditions.

He urged Nigerians to support the administration, stressing that development under President Tinubu would reach every part of the FCT.
