Senate President Godswill Akpabio has warned Nigerians to be vigilant, alleging that recent kidnappings for ransom are being orchestrated to create the impression that the country is unsafe under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking in Abuja during the commissioning of road projects marking Tinubu’s third year in office, Akpabio claimed that some critics of the president were paying youths to cause mayhem, focusing on insecurity rather than acknowledging policy reforms and infrastructure achievements.
“When they realized they can’t talk about projects, performance, good laws, transformation in the petroleum industry, or subsidy removal promised for decades, they resorted to paying young people and recruiting them to cause mayhem,” Akpabio said.
He urged citizens to be cautious, stressing that kidnappings are being used to undermine public confidence in security.
Akpabio praised the military and security agencies for their efforts, insisting that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges.
“Be very vigilant and be careful about people trying to kidnap for ransom. They are kidnapping in order to give the impression that Nigeria is not safe,” he added.
Akpabio assured that elections would not destabilize the country, emphasizing that Nigeria’s democratic process would endure beyond political contests.
